This interests me

Today I went to my Women Psychology class. As usual, I'm kinda looking forward to it.

Today's topic is on 'Growing Up Female II'

We did an assessment on how gender identified we were (individually)

This is a new personality test which break from the tradition of defining people only as Masculine and Feminine

(there are a lot of personality test which limits a person to

e.g. high masculine traits must come with low feminine traits and vice versa)

but in this test, the masculine and feminine and neutral traits are viewed independently on its own. This means that a person is capable of having high on both masculine and feminine traits.

(Do not confuse this with bisexual/transgender. It's plainly on personality traits, not sexual orientation.)

So, there are 4 categories:

1. Masculine

2. Feminine

3. Androgynous (high score on both masculine and feminine traits)

4. Undifferentiated (low score on both)

Research is done and these are the results:

1. how you fall into which 4 categories affects how you code information and how you behave

2. Androgynous and undifferentiated people are unpredictable in social situations.

They choose what traits they want to use or how they want to react, depending on situations and people.

(oppositely, masculine/feminine people reacts according to their consistent traits.

3. Masculine/feminine people change their behavior when interacting with people of the opposite sex, particularly if they are attractive (Androgyny and undifferentiated do not)

4. Acc to a research done in which to identify how well can a person recalled a conversation (with the same sex and with the opposite sex):
Undifferentiated people fair the best, followed by Androgynous people who make some mistakes (same percentage error in recalling conversation, regardless of the gender of that conversation partner)

Masculine/feminine people tend to make few errors in recalling the conversation of the same gender; while huge errors in recalling conversation of the opposite gender

[side note: that's why many wives find themselves nagging their husbands because the men tend not to remember what their wives had said. same goes the other way round]

5. there is a 5th category: cross-sex typed (male who has high feminine traits and vice versa)
but it is too much info and somehow complicated to jump into this group. I'll skip it for now.

6. It is believed that the population of the Androgynous people are growing as society stresses more on equality in both genders. (no mention about undifferentiated group)

and one thing which I must mention, personality tests and categories is just a concept created by psychologists who feel that it is a necessity to define and distinct people in groups. It should never be the guideline of understanding ourselves or limit us to be who we are.

Clarification:

This test is created with the United States citizens, social and culture as the base of research.

There are definite differences in cultural and societal view of gender traits.

e.g. what is viewed as feminine traits in US might not be viewed the same in Africa.

If wanted to be more accurate, there has to be a total different assessment for people from different culture, Nationality and society.
