Leadership Nuggets #3

Patrick Lencioni: 3 virtues of an ideal team player: 1. Humble more interested in others than themselves a person who downplay their own ability is not humility, that is low self confidence 2. Hungry strong work ethic, not slacker, do whatever is necessary to get it done 3. Smart (People smart, EQ) emotional intelligence, people smart, common sense around people A Humble + Hungry person who lack People Smartness = The Accidental Mess-Maker  (These people get things done but might get into a lot of interpersonal trouble and perhaps need the supervisor to clean up the mess for them. They need to train up their EQ) A Humble + People Smart person who lack Hunger = The Lovable Slacker  (These people tend to stay a long time in the team, nobody wants to fire them because they are lovable and they do just enough work for you not to shoo them away, but they just constantly lack that drive to move forward and charge ahead) A Hungry + People Smart person who lack...

Brokenness

Image
But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. 2 Cor 4:7 My will was strong My pride was thick My self was first I have my plans in my hands I know my desires in my heart I was crafting out my own life You wanted to love me You wanted to use me You wanted to lead me And because you care so much You stepped in, crushed my wall And because you can't bear to see You stepped in, put a stop And because you LOVE. Like soldier running in to battlefield Like fireman rushing in to rescue life You firmly, but lovingly, held on to that hammer and broke down all my walls I shattered into dusts and ashes But you picked up my pieces Not leaving any You put it back together Tighten and perfect it with that warmth  That warmth of yours- called GRACE Grace- Not that I deserve Not that I'm worthy Grace- instead of shame just amazing grace I look up and I see...

Wrestling with God

Image
Dear God, I have decided to wrestle with you like how Jacob wrestled with you. Until you deliver me out of my distress. I will keep on doing that. Until that hip-socket moment, so that I will forever remember You. and Your faithfulness to me. Based on: J acob wrestles with God  Genesis 32:3-12, 22-32, 33:1-4 1. Fear  Jacob fears his brother, Esau. He was in " Great Fear and Distress"! Mind you, the last time Jacob met Esau was when he cheated everything from Esau to the extent that Esau wanted to kill him. That's why he flee away for 20 years! The issue wasn't resolved just by Jacob running away. That's why, 20 years later, Jacob was still "in great fear and distress". Because he has an unresolved issue that deeply troubled and distressed him. What is the unresolved issue that deeply troubled and distressed you? It might be for you a deep fear- fear of the uncertainty, fear of making the wrong decisions, fear of trusting, fear of no...

Communication and Leadership

Image
To Preach and Lead well, Communication and Leadership has to come hand-in-hand (These two are my passion) If that preacher preach fantastically but doesn't have that accompanying leadership qualities, he/she is going to frustrate the congregation in every possible ways. "The greatest churches have good/great preaching and good/great leadership." Bill Hybels It's always important to have both communication and leadership. Thought point: Are seminaries equipping only preachers? Or are they equipping leaders as well? We have homiletics (preaching) classes but do we have leadership classes? We need dedicated people who will say "We are going to prepare young men and women to preach and lead well." Because that's what's gonna change the world! What this 3 min Leadership bites: Bill Hybels: Communication and Leadership

The Law of Education

Image
Good teachers care about whether their student learn or not they can't be focused on what they do, but what their students are doing "Ok now that you've known that, so How does it work in your life?" Tension is absolutely indispensable to the process of growing. Have clear-cut objectives for your teaching: 1. Teach them how to think You've got to know how to think yourself first disturb their equilibrium, challenge them to think 2. Teach people how to learn Big picture- detail -big picture Always start with telling them the big picture so they'll have a full idea 3. Teach people how to work Don't do for them what they can do for themselves Spend more time questioning answers than answering questions It's better to let students leave your class with more questions, so they'll start finding answers about it and talking about it, than just yawn and forgot what you taught something that can be put into habit: Have stimulatin...

The Law of the Teacher

Teaching to Change Lives Dr. Howard Hendricks What to look out for: A passion to communicate A passion to grow A passion to keep learning in life -one of the best way to learn comes from reading. What are the best five books you've read in the past year? God wants to work through you , but he can't until he works in you. Human personality is the vehicle of effective teaching. How have you changed lately? Be very specific. Effective teaching comes only through a changed person. The more you change, the more you become an instrument of change in the lives of others. People who are constantly thinking... what have i learnt? How can i teach that to others? You learn from the past, but you don't live in it. One of the greatest fear is not that I will fail, but that I might succeed at doing the wrong things- that i'll reach the end of the line and discover that this isn't the destination I wanted, and it can't fulfill me. Growing intellectua...

Leadership Nuggets #2

Image
Bill Hybels: 1. A leader is one who cares, one who loves. Because he doesn't just focus on our performance, he cares about us and if we don't perform, he helps us to be better, because he loves us. Lead them, pastor them. Be a leader who treasures God's people. 2. What is your passion? Discover it. and Fill that passion bucket! People like to work under passionate leaders. Passion is transferable. Find, Feed, Keep your passion bucket. and everyone wins. 3. Transactional noise are gossips and unnecessary little talks that goes around and brings down morale and culture of an organisation. How to reduce transactional noise? When people are placed in the right position, transactional noise goes down- Talent observation (observe their talents and put them in the right position with the right job scope) 4. Leadership is not ultimately about time, it's Energy. Where do you put your energy? (Draw an energy piechart in your life and figure out which area do yo...

The Battles of Life

-Nicky Gumbel- -Bible in One Year- The Christian life is a battle. As I look back, there were Years of Great blessings and also many challenges. Very few periods when I have not been facing some kind of battle. How to navigate these spiritual battles of life? Trust in God The key to winning your battles, is not to rely on your own strength, but to put your trust in God. Merciful Lord, grant your people GRACE to withstand the temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil, and with pure hearts and minds to follow you, the only God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. My Sheep Hear My Voice

Image
Today, we (the girls on 5th floor) learnt about Obedience.  " Faith is only real when there is obedience, never without it, and faith only becomes faith in the act of obedience." Dietrich Bonhoeffer I shared that at times I have difficulty recognizing His voice. I get confused if I am hearing him or myself or other people.  Then we took turns to share and draw a name and wrote something for each another. Sarah wrote me something real heart-warming May you learn to turn down the world's volume and in to His voice :) Because you are His sheep, you will know His voice :) Now all that is left is to obey.   and w e sang this song:  WHO AM I? All of us have our own desires.  Desires are not bad. Some are even granted by God.  It is a passion, a longing, something that speaks to us and drives us...  But when our desire go against what God wants us to do at this very moment, we have to follow God's way, so does i...
