The Law of the Teacher
Teaching to Change Lives
Dr. Howard Hendricks
What to look out for:
A passion to communicate
A passion to grow
A passion to keep learning in life
-one of the best way to learn comes from reading. What are the best five books you've read in the past year?
God wants to work through you , but he can't until he works in you.
Human personality is the vehicle of effective teaching.
How have you changed lately? Be very specific.
Effective teaching comes only through a changed person. The more you change, the more you become an instrument of change in the lives of others.
People who are constantly thinking... what have i learnt? How can i teach that to others?
You learn from the past, but you don't live in it.
One of the greatest fear is not that I will fail, but that I might succeed at doing the wrong things- that i'll reach the end of the line and discover that this isn't the destination I wanted, and it can't fulfill me.
Growing intellectually
1. maintain a consistent study and reading time.
- first half read, second half reflect.
2. enroll in continuing education course
- course that not only increase your content but also your skill
3. get to know your students as much as you can and pray over them individually
Growing physically
by a regular, systematic exercise (aerobic) program we could each add five to fifteen years of life to our ministry. Think of the implications!
Growing socially
Do you still put in effort to keep in touch with your non-christian friends?
Do you have a good group of christian friends?
Finally, remember that the unexamined life is not worth living!
Experience doesn't necessarily make you better, in fact, it sometimes make you worse, unless it's evaluated experience!
Constant Self-examination:
1. what are my strengths?
2. what are my weaknesses?
3. What do I have to change?
